Fully Comprehensive Car Insurance: For Hire?

2010 July 28

All of us from time-to-time have had to hire a car. Whether its because you are traveling or because your car is off the road for some reason then its time to look for the best rental car solution for you . Now all rental cars should come with insurance, but you need to check whether the cover is fully comprehensive car insurance - or only for selected events. You need that just in case something or someone did some damage to the rental vehicle. You can’t expect to pay for the whole car unless you are rich. Anyone who offers car rental service should have those insured also for the safety of their customers.

Just like cars you own, rented cars can also fall victim to theft, vandalism, natural disasters, and pretty much everything under the sun. Let’s take theft, you rented a car for some months now then one night you parked it on your driveway then in the morning you are surprised with an empty driveway. What will you tell the rental service? Of course you can always report to the police about it and what are the chances that you will get the car back in one piece? Or if someone decided to break the windshield? It can also be from pure accident like let’s say your kids decided to take it for a night out and the car and you just wake up in the night just to hear that the car went for a flip at a ditch? Or maybe night swimming at the beach? But at least you are glad to hear your kid’s voice on the phone, right?

Be picky when looking for the right rental service. Try to know what coverage does it provide. But still the responsibility is on the person who rents the car. It may need double precaution to drive cars you rent.

Once you have the car treat it like you would own your own car. A rented car doesn’t make any difference with one that you own, it’s still a car anyway. The importance of safety cannot be explained enough, it should come second nature. But for true peace of mind make sure that you have fully comprehensive car insurance.
